Red Hot Chili Peppers release their next album May 6, 2022. Ahead of this, we get two songs, “Black Summer” and “Poster Child”, both excellent tracks – the latter being bushels of words in the spirit of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” or the Barenaked Ladies’ “One Week”. Pop Culture references, mostly bands, fly out of the exhaustive rack of lyrics. You can pick up Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Ramones, Judas Priest, and others along with references to Chico and the Man, Valvoline, Karate Kid, the list goes on. The interesting part – the twists like “Lizzy lookin’ mighty thin, the Thompsons had another twin” and “Bernie Mac and Caddyshack were dusty as the bric-a-brac / And if you ask me for the time, I’ll tell you that the future’s back” make this a very entertaining ride.
I can’t wait for the rest of the album. Gonna. Be. Great.
