TBT: Burt Bacharach 1928-2023

When I was much younger, you couldn’t go anywhere or turn on a radio or TV without experiencing something that Burt Bacharach touched. His songs permeate modern culture. You hear them in supermarkets, in television shows, anywhere you go. You know more of his songs than you think you know.

This Throwback Thursday, let’s jump back to a song that was a #1 for Herb Alpert in 1968, expertly covered by Faith No More. “This Guy’s In Love With You” was a song that Alpert got from Bacharach, when he asked if Burt had anything he could put on his album. Bacharach pulled it from a file drawer of compositions and the rest is history.

It’s one of my favorite songs, and I often claim it’s my all-time favorite. It’s memorable, it sounds like it’s been around forever, and everyone knows it. It takes amazing talent to create something that people feel they’re already familiar with the first time they hear it.

Mike Patton is on target when he says, “Who doesn’t love Burt Bacharach?”
